The Connaught Bar has been crowned the most influential bar in the world for the second year running.
The London institution, which sits at the heart of the luxury Mayfair hotel The Connaught, has once again taken the top spot in a list of the world’s most influential bars for 2021, compiled by Top 500 Bars.
Designed by the late David Collins, the Cubist-inspired Connaught Bar bar has remained one of the most eminent establishments on the London cocktail scene since it opened in 2008.
Hotel bars feature prominently in the top 100 establishments for the 2021 ranking. Manhattan, the Regent Singapore’s sophisticated drinking hole, scored number six on the list, while Side Hustle, the onsite bar at London’s NoMad hotel, was ranked at number seven. Lyaness London, the creative cocktail bar at the luxury Sea Containers hotel, came in at number 11, and The Langham’s Artesian Bar, another stalwart in the UK capital, was awarded the number 23 spot.
Luxury Mayfair hotel Duke London’s Duke Bar was also recognised at number 28, as was Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood Hotel, which took 31st place on the list. The Mandarin Oriental Bangkok institution Bamboo Bar and the Rosewood Hong Kong venue DarkSide also feature in the top 100.
To create the list, Top 500 Bars aggregated online data about cocktail bars from hundreds of sources, in more than 20 languages, in order to identify and rank the most influential 500 venues around the world. The data collated was sourced from experts, journalists and influencers, as well as rankings, platforms and search engines that aggregate reviews from the general public. The 2021 ranking spans 500 bars in 113 different cities across 53 different countries.
