Langdale Chase launches Swallows and Amazons-inspired afternoon tea
Langdale Chase has launched a new afternoon tea, inspired by 1930 novel Swallows and Amazons.
The new offer celebrates 50 years since the novel was brought to the big screen – cast and crew in fact stayed at the hotel during filming in 1974.
The tea will be presented on crockery made and hand-painted by local artisans, and will be served in the picturesque dining room, lounges and on the hotel’s lakeside terrace.
The menu is a nod to the culinary escapades of the novel’s young protagonists and its author. Sandwiches include smoked salmon with beetroot and cream cheese, honouring author Ransome’s love of smoked fish; and pemican beef with horseradish and red onion, an allusion to the corned beef the young protagonists regularly indulge in.
Potted shrimps with crumpets and savoury cheddar donuts will be on offer, while sweet treats include a chocolate and marmalade fancy, gooseberry choux and Titty’s Bun Loaf. The menu will change seasonally, ensuring fresh flavours throughout the year.
