Rosewood Hong Kong is celebrating the inauguration of its in-house restaurant, Chaat, to the list of Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred eateries. The venue, which is the first Indian restaurant in the city’s Kowloon neighbourhood, has been awarded a Michelin star for 2022.
Chaat, which means ‘to lick’ in Hindi, is helmed by Chef de Cuisine Manav Tuli. His menu puts an elevated twist on the traditional central Indian street snacks he loved growing up, with highlights including a hearty homemade Paneer Cheese and Pav Bhaji. The menu spans small plates, slow-cooked dishes and Tandori specialities, as well as focusing on vegetables and grains. Cooking with a trio of authentic tandoor ovens, the culinary team pays homage to the rich and varied culinary lexicon of India’s central states and Bombay coast, the northern Punjab and Kerala in the south.
Chaat’s dishes are accompanied by an equally nostalgic drinks menu, offering diners a choice of wines and cocktails influenced by the spice-traders of bygone times.
“We are truly thankful for the recognition given to us by Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau,” said Chef Manav. “I am hopeful that this Michelin star will bring a new perspective to the rich, historic, and endlessly diverse cuisine that India – my home, birthplace and inspiration – has to offer. I am grateful for Rosewood Hong Kong and my team for working tirelessly to create a wonderful experience for our guests every day.”
