Il Bocconcino, headed up by Chef Niki Pavanelli, at Royal Hideaway Corales Resort, Tenerife has won its first Michelin star.

Inspired by his hometown of Bologna, Pavanelli creates traditional Italian dishes with a progressive twist. Establishing his own style by incorporating local Canarian produce, the chef brings his culinary heritage to the destination.

Aged twenty-three, Pavanelli moved to Spain where he has spent more than half of his professional life. He worked alongside Spanish chefs the Adrià brothers at elBulli and elBarri, where he honed his skills.

Il Bocconcino opened in 2018 and has evolved under Pavanelli’s direction through the opening of La Trattoria alongside Il Bocconcino. La Trattoria serves family-style Italian dishes, which allows Pavanelli to be more experimental at Il Bocconcino.

Il Bocconcino has received several impressive accolades since opening, including the recent Michelin Star, a Sol in the Repsol Guide 2024, and is recognition as the only Italian restaurant in the Canary Islands to be included in the prestigious guide Identitá Golose.

This award makes the hotel the most Michelin starred in Spain as the restaurant joins San Ho (one star) and El Rincon de Juan Carlos (two stars). Part of Barcelo Hotel Group, the Royal Hideaway brand also now boasts the most Michelin Stars within a hotel group across Spain.
