Tropical Hotel, a boutique Caribbean property on the island of Saint-Barthélemy, has unveiled its fresh new look for 2022.
Interior designer Oscar Ono has reimagined the hotel’s rooms, public areas and F&B spaces, drawing on references from the French Riviera and the mid-century architecture of Palm Springs. The result is a playful, immersive design that cleverly plays with colour and nature to form a cocooning tropical oasis.
The hotel’s restaurant features a vibrant mural painted by Raphael Schmitt, depicting various species of local plants and colourful botanical references. The eatery has been divided in different spaces, but retains an open and airy atmosphere, thanks to its high ceilings. A wood-panelled bar is surrounded by plush seating, while tropical fabrics in shades of pink, blue and green breathe life into the space.
The dishes are equally international, inspired by French and Mediterranean cuisine with an Italian touch, with highlights including mimosa eggs with caviar. A Robata grill means that grilled dishes are cooked Japanese style in front of the guests, with the charcoal-based cooking technique ensuring that the food retains its flavour.
Outdoors on the patio the theme continues, with sugary-pink fabrics and white linens combining to create a breezy, ocean-front ambience that befits the local fauna. The hotel’s 24 rooms have also been rejuvenated, using a beachy colour palette of cool blues and pastel pinks, alongside touches of dark wood and rattan.
