Landmark London hotel The Dorchester has revealed further details of its extensive renovation works.
The heritage property, which first opened its doors in 1931, is collaborating with the designer Pierre-Yves Rochon on a new look for its rooms and suites, which will be revamped in varying colourways inspired by an English garden. Palettes of pale leaf green, rose fog pink, heather blue and lemon yellow will leave the hotel’s guest accommodation light and fresh.
The designer is also working on refurbishing the hotel’s Promenade, which will act as the setting for dining experiences including The Dorchester’s afternoon tea. Towards the end of the space, a new entertainment area is set to be unveiled, offering a glamorous and sparkling area for fun and frivolous evenings of champagne and seafood. The Promenade will also feature an original collection of contemporary artworks by British creatives, crossing a range of diverse media and techniques.
Rochon has similarly been charged with developing a new Cake & Flowers boutique with its own entrance on the Deanery Street corner of the hotel. Here, Executive Pastry Chef Michael Kwan’s signature pastries and cakes will be available to take away, while customers can also order gift hampers, floral bouquets and a selection of champagnes and artisan chocolates.
When it comes to the hotel bar, it is designer Martin Brudnizki who is putting his stamp on the surroundings, reimagining the legendary cocktail institution as a space inspired by the spirit and elegance of the 1930s. The new layout allows for a dedicated Park Lane entrance and an outside terrace with views towards Hyde Park. Ornate design pieces on show will include a 1930s Palladium leaf ceiling and a series of Cecil Beaton pieces, ranging from original drawings to celebrity photography.
The Dorchester will be ready to reveal its new interiors as of early September 2022, although the hotel remains open for guests throughout the renovation.
