Capella Singapore opens new bar concept, The Pineapple Room
An ode to Sentosa Island’s storied history, Capella Singapore has opened its latest bar concept, The Pineapple Room.
Situated above the hotel lobby, the venue finds its home in the heart of the resort’s heritage Tanah Merah building and honours the getaway’s little-known past as a flourishing pineapple plantation in the 1880s, weaving subtle nods to the tropical fruit into a classic and contemporary cocktail list and elegant interiors.
Warm, neutral-toned wallpaper featuring flora and fauna and photographs of Singapore from the 1940s to 1960s, taken by renowned architectural photographer and heritage conservationist Marjorie Doggett, set the scene for the inviting interiors of The Living Room and The Pineapple Room as guests ascend the staircase.
By day, The Living Room presents a cosy retreat, where hotel guests can enjoy light refreshments and beverages, with afternoon tea available. By dusk, it gracefully transforms into The Pineapple Room, an elevated bar experience designed to inspire authentic connections and meaningful conversations.
Bringing to life the allure of the bygone era are rattan chairs, alongside vintage orb lightings that cast a soft, nostalgic glow. The centrepiece is a rich dark-teak bar crowned with a Carrara marble top and matching backsplash, standing in contrast to pristine walls. The interior design incorporates elements such as vintage maps that celebrate Singapore’s history, and commissioned paintings of botanicals and pineapples by local artists.
The Pineapple Room is flanked by two al fresco terraces. Guests can lounge on rattan chairs or enjoy a recreational game of pool or foosball while taking in vistas of the lush greenery that envelop Capella Singapore.
A curated selection of cocktails is inspired by Singapore’s rich tapestry of cultures, crafted with ingredients championing the garden city’s delicate botanicals and local fruits.
Triple P is the signature cocktail. Tropical pineapple forms the base which is complemented by reposado, agave nectar, lime, orange bitters and a touch of chilli salt. Elsewhere, Scarlet Rouge is an interpretation of the iconic Mary Pickford cocktail and incorporates dark rum, cherry liqueur, pineapple, pomegranate, bitters and edible gold.
Culinary highlights include Singapore chilli crab pie tee, pan-fried Hokkaido scallops with ginger flower-pineapple sauce, sakura chicken satay and gruyère cheese straws.
