Amsterdam-based botanical rum distillery, The Spirited Union Distillery, has launched three new flavours in the UK.
The new flavoured rums – Queen Pineapple & Spice, Sweet Orange & Ginger and Pink Grapefruit & Rose – are already available in the Netherlands and will roll out internationally throughout November and December 2020.
Spirited Union Queen Pineapple & Spice Rum – winner of The Grocer New Products Awards – is made by macerating Queen Victoria pineapple in Panamanian Rum. The mini pineapples are sweeter and more aromatic than the standard fruit, resulting in a delicious rich aroma and complex fruity notes.
The natural sweetness of the pineapple is balanced by infusing rum with cassia wood and cinnamon, to finish with heat. The distillery suggests serving the pineapple rum with lemonade or mixing in classic rum cocktails.
Meanwhile the Spirited Union Sweet Orange & Ginger Rum is produced by infusing and distilling sweet oranges from Valencia and Curacao to provide citrus notes to their cask-aged Jamaican rum.
As well as adding a rich citrus aroma, the oranges unite with fresh ginger root infused in the rum. The orange rum pairs well with ginger ale, ginger beer or mixed in a popular rum cocktail.
Spirited Union Pink Grapefruit & Rose Rum is created by distilling the skin of blush-pink grapefruits to match the floral taste of Swazi rum. Enhanced by infused blood orange for a bitter-sweet taste, the rum has been vapour-infused with fragrant garden rose petals and elderflower to give an intense floral aroma resulting in the union of citrus and blossom.
“We are continuing our quest to produce rums with real flavour; creating a union between the vast and colourful world of botanicals to produce a range of exciting naturally-flavoured rums,” says founder Ruben Maduro. “Having lived and working in Aruba in the Dutch Antilles, I looked to warmer climates for inspiration for our botanicals for these new expressions.”
He adds: “Our Queen Pineapple & Spice has a taste of the tropics and the Sweet Orange & Ginger has a bite of ginger for Jamaican heat.”
The new additions join the range which launched in 2019, with Spirited Union Spice & Sea Salt and the world’s first white botanical rum, Spirited Union Lemon & Leaf.
