Bushmills Irish Whisky launches The Causeway Collection, a limited release inspired by the alchemy of nature
Bushmills Irish Whiskey is ringing in the colder months with the UK’s second annual release of The Causeway Collection.
Following the highly-successful release of last year’s Causeway Collection, the 2001 Feuillette Cask, this year the whiskey brand is launching two cask strength expressions exclusive to Great Britain. Each of the rare Irish single malt releases was inspired by the natural wonder and mythicism of the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage site just a stone’s throw from the Old Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland.
First up is the 1991 Madeira Cask, a rare release of just 738 bottles. Aged for more than 13 years in a mix of Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, before going through an 16-year maturation period in first-fill Madeira wine casks, the unique Irish single malt is rich with a deep, sweet, fruity character and overtones of creamy pralines and black coffee. It is bottled at a cask strength of 50.2% ABV.
The collection also includes the 2000 Port Cask, an Irish single malt that spent its 20-year maturation period in first-fill ruby port casks from Portugal. Imbued with bold, luscious red fruit flavours, this expression is bottled at a cask strength of 54.1% ABV.
“All the whiskeys used in The Causeway Collection have been expertly created and cared for by craftsmen steeped in a unique whiskey-making tradition passed from generation to generation for more than 400 years here at The Old Bushmills Distillery,” said Colum Egan, Bushmills Master Distiller. “The Causeway Collection celebrates our extremely rare and unique casks, our passion for single malts and honours our rich heritage. It’s a privilege to work with such rare liquid, these special cask whiskeys really are our greatest treasures.”
The launch of The Causeway Collection saw George the Poet perform a spoken word version of his poem ‘Singular Tales’, an ode to The Old Bushmills Distillery and the brand’s heritage, celebrating the power of storytelling and connection.
Bushmills whiskeys are crafted at The Old Bushmills Distillery, which is the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. The 1991 Madeira Cask will be available to purchase exclusively through The Whisky Shop, while the 2000 Port Cask will be available nationally at select specialist retailers, with 2,322 bottles available.
