Viceroy at Ombria Algarve appoints Pedro Pinto as Executive Chef
Viceroy at Ombria Algarve has announced several key leadership appointments including Pedro Pinto, who joins as Executive Chef.
It comes as Viceroy prepares to open the 141-room destination later this year, with guest rooms, suites and residences all set within 5.2 hectares.
The resort will launch with six dining outlets, each paying homage to the region’s ingredients and utilising produce either grown on-site in their gardens and orchards or sourced locally.
Originally from Ovar in Northern Portugal, Pinto’s professional journey includes notable stints at the three Michelin-starred AbaC Barcelona, two Michelin-starred Vila Joya and one Michelin-starred Bela Vista. The chef’s culinary philosophy is rooted in creativity and seasonality, alongside a profound respect for provenance and Portuguese traditions.
Viceroy at Ombria Algarve also announces that Gonçalo Mendes takes on the role of Head Sommelier, and Duarte Gonçalves da Cunha becomes General Manager.
Mendes has worked in wine tourism for over nearly two decades, with this dedication recognised when he won the award for Best Wine Tourism Sommelier in the country at the National Wine Tourism Awards. In 2023, he was honoured as the Best Sommelier of the Year and has achieved a Bronze medal in the National Course by the National Association of Sommeliers.
Mendes joined L’and Vineyards as Sommelier and Maître in 2012, and in 2013 was part of the team that received an international distinction, earning a Michelin Star with Chef Miguel Laffan.
