Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer has unveiled Marlow, a brand-new restaurant at Mareterra, the group’s offshore extension development.

Bringing a touch of British elegance to Monte-Carlo, the new opening pays homage to the first visitors who graced the resort’s establishments more than 160 years ago.

Designed in the spirit of a sophisticated and inviting English club and inspired by late 19th century English literature, Marlow tells the story of Lady M, a fictional British aristocrat who welcomes her guests into a distinctive, immersive English club experience.

Bryan Gaillard heads the establishment bringing years of experience in London’s renowned clubs and restaurants. He spent four years managing the venues at The London Edition Hotel, including the Berners Tavern restaurant, before going on to direct Brilliant Corners and Mu for two years.

The artist, architect, and interior designer Hugo Toro, of Franco-Mexican origin, presents a décor that spans over 300 sqm indoors and a 100 sqm terrace.

The British-inspired space blends the sophistication of an English private club with the warmth of the Mediterranean sun. Toro’s signature style can be seen in locations such as PUR’, Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris’ Place Vendôme, the Midland Dining Room at St Pancras Station in London, Villa Albertine Atelier in New York, and soon at the first Orient Express Hotel in Rome this spring.

He has created a completely bespoke design at Marlow, curating every aspect of the space—from the architecture and lighting to the furniture and door handles. The space blends Victorian-inspired panelling with coral motifs and offers several distinct areas including a seafood bar, a private lounge and a musical stage, all centred around the main bar.

There is a combination of raw and refined materials like decorative patinas, polished woods, pink and green marble, Murano glass, bespoke lighting and candlelit dinners. Completing the space is Lady M’s curiosity cabinet, a collection of carefully chosen objects, art books, and biographies selected by Toro himself.

On the menu, English-inspired comforting cuisine is served all day. The day begins with a traditional full English breakfast, followed by a relaxed Sunday roast with complimentary champagne. For a classic afternoon experience, Tea Time features pastries and delicate sandwiches, served according to the English tradition in a lively, jazzy atmosphere.

The breakfast and dinner menus showcase British specialties such as Beef Wellington with truffle purée and the signature Marlow Pie. The chef also offers a selection of fish, seafood, shellfish, crudos, and caviar, along with Stilton blue cheese.

Desserts, such as the indulgent Lord Mess is made with meringue, seasonal fruits, and tonka bean-flavoured whipped cream. A Roll Bar completes the menu and features a selection of specialities served in brioche rolls, including Lobster Rolls, Crab Rolls and Grilled Cheese.

In the evening, Marlow transforms into an elegant bar, offering a cocktail menu inspired by classic British drinks including the Vesper Martini, a favourite of James Bond, the Hanky Panky created in 1903 at the Savoy by Ada Coleman, the first female bartender in history, Milk Punch and Irish Coffee. The bar also boasts a selection of whiskies, cognacs, and aged rums, along with a cigar cellar, completing the English club experience.

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, the restaurant hosts live soul music adding a lively touch to the evening atmosphere.

“Marlow is the latest addition to the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer’s collection of bars and restaurants, which already includes some thirty addresses in Monaco,” says Albert Manzone, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer. “This new Maison concept has been created to appeal to the largely English-speaking clientele of the new Monegasque district, but also of course to Monegasque residents, as well as visitors to the Principality.’
