Dusit Thani Bangkok hotel introduces the 1970 Bar

Dusit Thani Bangkok hotel has introduced the 1970 Bar, an ode to the year the original hotel was built.

This destination lounge was conceived by interior architect André Fu, marrying retro charm with contemporary design elements.

From the sage green entrance,  is a cocooning space of fine lines and bold accents form a striking canvas for creative spirits and seasonal bites. The venue re-imagines the electric spirit of the 1970s through three curated spaces.

First, the Salon is an intimate boudoir of vintage-inspired furniture set against a painterly mural backdrop. Via a bronze portal, guests are ushered into the Library, where a collection of artisanal objects and lifestyle books are showcased.

The journey concludes with the Bar Boudoir, featuring a prominent cocktail bar, framed by an undulating bronze liquor shelf.

The overall ambience evokes the atmosphere of a cosmopolitan penthouse curated by an imaginary worldly and sophisticated hostess. Meanwhile, the nostalgic aesthetics and vibrant disco beats immerse guests in the retro glamour of the 1970s.

In terms of the palette, dusty pink and sage green is complemented with warm oak, while floor-to-ceiling rattan panelling and bronze arches add texture and accents. Eclectic curiosities and cosy corners create intrigue and intimacy.

“To me, 1970 Bar evokes the spirit of a tropical boudoir set in Bangkok’s skyline,” says designer André Fu. “It is a re-telling of the hotel’s storied origin era, with a modern twist.”

Each drink at 1970 Bar is a tribute to the decade’s cultural icons, groundbreaking events and indelible memories. With a focus on premium ingredients, the cocktails blend international sophistication with unique flavour profiles. Highlights include:

The 1970 Martini is a tableside homage to Elsa Peretti, the legendary jewellery designer of the seventies, a crisp and classic martini. Meanwhile, Acid Queen is inspired by Tina Turner – the “Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll” – this gin-based cocktail is a vibrant mix of mandarin, lemon verbena, yellow tomato, lemon and egg white.

Nightly live performances and funky disco tracks elevate the mood, immersing guests in a world where the past meets the present.
