Swiss alpine hotel The Alpina Gstaad has launched a Japanese Whisky Bar within its Megu Japanese restaurant, open until October 2023.
Complementing the hotel’s contemporary design and Six Senses Spa inspired by Asian wellness traditions, the new bar is home to Switzerland’s largest Japanese whisky collection. Decorated with handcrafted shingles and showcasing a vast array of prestigious bottles, the bar is the latest F&B addition to the hotel.
An intimate spot with just three high stools at the bar, the venue allows guests to sip from over 40 light- to full-bodied whiskies available by the bottle or glass, sourced from over 15 distilleries in 12 Japanese prefectures. In particular, guests will find whiskies sourced from a range of locations, including a distillery closed in 2000, a 361m-long tunnel, and blended malts that include those from the last remaining batch of the famed Hanyu Distillery.
“With whisky regaining popularity in recent times, we are thrilled to be able to extend our gastronomic offering with the Japanese Whisky Bar,” said Pierfranco Lavra, Director of Restaurants at The Alpina Gstaad. “It is the perfect addiction to our existing versatile options of three restaurants and bars.”
The hotel is also offering an array of cocktail workshops, where guests will learn mixology tips using the bar’s whiskies.
