Spotlight: SIP by Pernod Ricard
Wine and spirits behemoth Pernod Ricard has hospitality running through its veins. So when the conglomerate decided to launch an interactive community platform for the industry’s movers and shakers, it kickstarted a global movement.
SIP was launched by Pernod Ricard with the goal of bringing hospitality professionals together to inspire each other and shape the future of the sector. It is designed to be as accessible and far-reaching as possible, forming a community where drinks specialists from bars, restaurants, clubs, events, festivals, hotels and other facets of the industry can share ideas, knowledge and passion.
The initiative – whose acronym is shorthand for ‘Share, Inspire Pioneer’ – features a diverse offering of original content that runs the gamut from industry-focused news articles and analysis to podcasts, videos and expert talks. Additionally, it offers practical advice from game-changers across the global drinks sector community, at all age groups and levels, touching on practical topics such as preventing burnout, menu curation, creating safe bar spaces for women and normalising failure.
Also integrated into the platform is PBT, Pernod Ricard’s Professional Bar Training e-learning programme, which is the first fully accredited online education programme created specifically for bar professionals to progress their careers. The in-depth vocational course is broken down into modules that can be undertaken remotely and at any time, allowing bar professionals to easily fit study around the complex hours of the industry, while advancing their education and careers. In addition to teaching core skills such as beverage knowledge and drink-making techniques, the programme covers pragmatic issues integral to success, such as licensing laws, sustainable bartending, responsible service, sales and marketing and financial business management.
