It’s showtime: The Savoy and Laurent-Perrier amp up the drama for the festive season
The Savoy is joining forces with Champagne Laurent Perrier this Christmas, to form a luxurious double-act that celebrates the London hotel’s roots in the world of theatre.
The heritage property is launching a festive activation entitled ‘It’s Showtime’ on 13 November, that will see its Thames Foyer transformed into a theatrical stage, complete with red velvet swags, mirrored baubles, a gazebo decorated with glistening baubles reminiscent of sparkling champagne bubbles and a platform allowing guests to create fun festive images. The finishing touch: a choice of Laurent-Perrier champagnes flowing from trolleys bedecked by bijou theatre sets placed around the salon.
An additional activation, dubbed ‘A Christmas Promise with Champagne Laurent-Perrier’, will allow guests to sip on Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé as they make a Christmas pledge. The drink comes topped with a scented bubble that drinkers are supposed to pop while sending a positive pledge out to the universe. Overnight guests can even enjoy making their own Christmas promise from the comfort of their room or suite.
“This year of all years, we want our guests to truly feel like stars and with our dramatic theming we’ll provide the stage on which they can feel like a million dollars,” says Franck Arnold, The Savoy’s Managing Director. “Whether they visit for a festive cocktail, an extravagant party or a delicious afternoon tea, we want them to leave with a sense of the magic of both Christmas and the exciting world of theatre.”
The activation references The Savoy’s roots in the performing arts; the hotel was built in 1889 by Richard D’Oyly Carte, a theatrical impresario who first opened the Savoy Theatre. As the first electrically-lit theatre and the birthplace of fairy lights, it was the height of modernity at the time. D’Oyly Carte made his fortune with the most popular operas of the day, the works of dramatist WS Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan. The Savoy’s ‘It’s Showtime’ will highlight how the theatre and music are a key part of the spirit of the hotel.
