Famed London hotel The Boundary has unveiled its new restaurant, following the venue’s acquisition and renovation by James McCulloch of Harcourt Inns.
Dubbed Boundary, the ground floor restaurant and bar (formerly Albion Café) is set to open its doors to diners on 18 May, with Swedish-born Head Chef, Robin Freeman at the helm. He will also oversee the refurbished rooftop bar restaurant.
Centred around a new 20 metre zinc top central bar, the 100-cover restaurant and bar will serve modern British fare with a European influence with a focus on provenance. Freeman’s menus will champion seasonal, sustainable British produce cooked in a casual and simple style, with dishes including Lulworth Bay scallops in anchovy and parsley butter, whole roasted chicken with wild garlic butter and wild garlic and nettle risotto. The meat will be thoughtfully sourced, with chickens coming from suppliers like Johnson & Swarbrick, beef from Glenarm Estate and fish from day boats off the Dorset and Devon coastlines. Weekends will offer a Saturday brunch, a Sunday roast, and drinks served into the wee hours.
The Boundary’s famous basement – an industrial brick-walled events space for up to 150 people – will continue to host some of the city’s best parties and private events, with innovative catering provided by the hotel’s new head chef. Recently purchased by James McCulloch – the founder of Harcourt Inns, known for developing some of the UK’s foremost pubs – the opening of the ground floor Boundary restaurant and bar marks a new era for this iconic former Victorian warehouse.
“The ground floor of the Boundary is one of the most underutilised spaces in East London and I’m excited to have the opportunity to re-position it into a bar and brasserie,” said James McCulloch, of the launch. “The rooftop has always been a popular destination over the summer months, and we just want to build on its popularity by improving the guests overall experience, through better food and drink and introducing live music and some personality. Whether you’re enjoying a sundowner on the rooftop bar, staying in one of the boutique hotel rooms, tucking into a three-course meal in the brasserie or hosting your 40th birthday party in the basement then quality, provenance and hospitality will be at the heart of what we offer.”
The Boundary – which was designed and formerly owned by Sir Terence Conran – features 17 bespoke boutique rooms, each of which pay tribute to an iconic designer or movement of the 20th Century.
