Interior design studio Goddard Littlefair has offered a first look at its transformation of the T37 Bar at Villa Copenhagen, a design-focused hotel housed in the Danish capital’s historic Central Post and Telegraph Head Office, originally built in 1912.
The London-based firm’s sister company, F&B design studio Epicurean, which specialises in designing F&B concepts, was recently charged with reworking the five food and drink spaces within the hotel, a Nordic Hotels & Resorts venture that opened its doors last year. The revamp includes the breakfast restaurant Public, the Rug Bakery, the all-day restaurant and bar Kontrast, the T37 Bar & Lounge and the rooftop Pool Bar.
The T37 Bar – the latest space to be unveiled – sits in the part of the hotel that was once the city’s Post Office. The design studio sought to reference the heritage of the space in the design while adding jovial and tongue-in-cheek features – such as the playful post bag satchel straps that hang above the bar. A striking cerise and olive colour palette contrasts with the vintage cherry wood and marble features, while a tiled fireplace, soft rugs and layers of warm lighting all combine to form a hygge-friendly ambience. Cabinets and carpentry reference residential Danish design and play into the thoughtful, contemporary and functional tone of the space.
The bar’s name comes from the original building’s nickname, T37, which referenced its address on Tietgensgade 37. The century-old architectural landmark boasts a prime location adjacent to the Copehnagen’s main train station and the Tivoli Gardens, and has formed the start of a dynamic new regeneration of the district.
