The Cotswolds Distillery has announced the launch of Hearts and Crafts Sauternes Cask Malt Whisky – the first release in a series of single malts which have been inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement.
The movement, of which artist William Morris was a pioneer, took place in the late 19th century in order to champion traditional, simple craftsmanship in contrast to the rapid industrialisation of Britain.
Launched on St George’s Day, The Cotswolds Distillery’s new spirit is its first ever European Oak Cask expression with only 1,680 bottles available.
The whisky is from a selection of five premium French Oak casks seasoned with sweet Sauternes wine, which results in a honey-coloured malt with vinous qualities and notes of sweet raisin and oak wood spice.
The Hearts and Crafts collection will consist of yearly limited editions, and each will be presented in gift boxes decorated with Morris’ designs.
Other special parcels that The Cotswolds Distillery has been filling over the past year include both European and American oak casks seasoned with Sauternes, Pineau de Charente, Calvados, Rum, Port, Madeira, Banyuls, Vermouth and other interesting wines.
